Joining a video meeting.

Click the link, allow your camera and microphone, and you are in. No app to install.

  1. Step 1

    Open the meeting link

    Meeting links start with https://conf.m8chat.au/. Click the one you were sent. It opens in your browser.

    M8Chat members can also paste a link into “Meetings” in the M8Chat app and tap “Join with link”.

  2. Step 2

    Allow camera and microphone

    Your browser asks permission. Click “Allow”. If you clicked “Block” by mistake, use the camera icon in the address bar to change it back.

  3. Step 3

    Enter your name

    Type the name others will see. You should see yourself on screen.

  4. Step 4

    Join

    Click “Join Meeting”. If there is a lobby, the host lets you in.

The toolbar

  • Microphone and camera: mute or switch off.
  • Share screen: your whole screen or one window.
  • Chat: text chat during the meeting.
  • Raise hand and reactions: speak without interrupting.
  • Participants and tile view: see who is here, and switch between speaker and grid.
  • Three dots menu: shared notepad, whiteboard, speaker stats, settings and keyboard shortcuts.
  • Red button: leave. You can come back with the same link.

Shared notepad: three dots menu, then “Open shared document”. Everyone types at once. Whiteboard: the whiteboard button, or the three dots menu. Everyone can draw at once.

If something goes wrong

It says the meeting has not started

Wait for the host to start it, and check you have the right link.

I cannot hear anyone

Open the three dots menu, then Settings, then Audio, and pick the right speakers or headphones.

Others cannot hear me

Check your microphone is not muted, then pick the right one under Settings, Audio.

My video does not work

Pick the right camera under Settings, Video. Close any other program that is using your camera.

The meeting is laggy

Turn your camera off, lower the video quality and close other browser tabs.
