M8Chat User Manual – Getting Started

Step 1
Join M8Chat
Go to m8chat.au and choose “Join”. Membership is $49 a year, or $5.99 a month if you prefer to pay monthly.
At checkout you choose a username and password.
Write down your username and password. You use them on the website and in every app. Do not rely on your browser to remember them.
Step 2
Your accounts are created
After payment we create your website account and your chat account. The chat account can take up to a minute. You are also added to the default chats.
Step 3
Pick your app
You can use the M8Chat app, Element, or both. Our suggestion is the M8Chat app: open app.m8chat.au and add it to your home screen.

Step 4
Protect your message history
The first time you sign in, make your recovery phrase (M8Chat app) or Security Phrase (Element) and store it somewhere safe. It is the only way to read old messages on a new device.
Step 5
Say hello
Open a chat from your list, type a message and send it. Use “People” in the M8Chat app to find other members.

Meetings

To host a meeting, use Manage meetings on the website or the Meetings screen in the M8Chat app. To join one, open the link you were sent. See Joining a video meeting and Hosting and managing meetings.

It is the username you chose when you joined. Use the contact form and we will help you find it.
